Are there any medieval banquets held in Scotland?

Q) I like to attend medieval banquets when I'm on holiday in Nottingham. I live in Lanarkshire, Scotland, and was wondering if there was any such events in Scotland? Such as in Edinburgh or Glasgow? I mean, ones where you pay a fee and attend for a meal and entertainment, not the ones that you hire out privately for your own group of people (eg weddings), but ones that anyone can attend. Thanks for any information Meg, Motherwell, Scotland.

A) Though not in Scotland, it is a bit closer than Nottingham, try Lumley Castle in Chester-Le Street. They have Elizabethan banquets on Fridays and Saturdays. It is over twenty years since I went there, but it was great fun.

Have you had a Feast like in Medieval times?

Q) Has anyone ever had a REAL FEAST - like you see in the movies set in medieval / roman times. The sort which goes on for days, where everyone sits at a long table. There would be at least 20 people there. Loads and Loads of food and drink. The type of feast where People would eat with their hands and a man would bite into a whole leg of roasted lamb - straight from the bone. If you feel like eating some chicken, you just grab a whole roasted chicken and take a few bites off it. None of the knife and fork stuff here. (A real man would have grease and bits / vomit stuck in his beard) Then there would be ale and everyone would drink more and more ale. Of course there would be modern entertainment - music / television in the background. With comfortable seating etc. After everyone has a belly full and skin ful, then people go to sleep and awake the next morning to start the second , third days of feasting. Have you ever enjoyed a real feast like this? (A simple xmas meal cannot count).

A) yes, we went to one in Cornwall at a meadery, it was great fun
